Ingredients

Batter Ingredients
  • 1 head cauliflower, cut into florets
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder
  • 1 cup water Gradually adjust for consistency.
  • as needed Oil for frying Vegetable or canola oil recommended.
Sauce Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce Can substitute with tamari for gluten-free.
  • 3 tablespoons honey or maple syrup Use maple syrup for vegan option.
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds For garnish.
  • as needed Green onions for garnish Chopped.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix the cornstarch, flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and ginger powder.
  2. Gradually add water until a smooth batter forms.
  3. Dip each cauliflower floret in the batter, allowing excess to drip off.
Cooking
  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and fry the battered cauliflower until golden and crispy, about 4-5 minutes.
  2. In another pan, combine sesame oil, soy sauce, honey (or maple syrup), and rice vinegar. Heat over medium until it simmers.
  3. Add the fried cauliflower to the sauce and toss to coat completely.
  4. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and garnish with chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

For an extra crunch, let the battered cauliflower sit for a few minutes before frying. Make sure the oil is hot enough before adding the cauliflower to avoid greasy results. Feel free to add a touch of sriracha to the sauce for a spicy kick.
