  • 300 g Korean rice cakes (tteok) Soak in water for about 30 minutes if hard.
  • 2 cups water
Sauce ingredients
  • 3 tablespoons gochujang (Korean chili paste) Adjust according to spice preference.
  • 1 tablespoon gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) Adjust according to spice preference.
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
Vegetables
  • 1/2 onion sliced
  • 2 stalks green onions Chopped.
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a pot, combine water, gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, sugar, and minced garlic, and bring to a simmer.
  2. Add the sliced onion and cook for about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the rice cakes to the pot and cook until they are soft and chewy, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the green onions and cook for an additional minute.
  5. Serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds.

Notes

Best served hot. Pair with pickled radish for a refreshing contrast. Optional: add boiled eggs, fish cake, or cheese for variation.
