Ingredients
  

For the crust
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for greasing
For the filling
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage cooked and crumbled
  • 1/2 cup pepperoni slices
  • 2 cups chunky tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C). Grease a cast iron skillet with olive oil.
  2. In a bowl, combine warm water and yeast; let it sit until frothy (about 5 minutes).
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, salt, and melted butter. Add the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes.
  4. Roll the dough out and place it into the skillet, pressing it up the sides.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Layer the mozzarella cheese at the bottom, followed by crumbled sausage, pepperoni, then top with chunky tomato sauce. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning and Parmesan cheese.
  2. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
Serving
  1. Allow to cool for a few minutes, then slice and serve.

Notes

Slice this pizza into generous pieces and serve it hot. Pair it with a fresh garden salad or drizzle balsamic glaze for added flavor. Store leftovers tightly wrapped in plastic wrap for 3-4 days in the fridge or freeze for up to 2 months.
