Preparation
  1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.
  3. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
  4. Add the garlic powder and onion powder, then stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm over fries.

Notes

For best results, use block cheese instead of pre-shredded to avoid graininess. Store leftovers in the fridge for 3-4 days or freeze for up to a month. Reheat gently, adding a splash of milk if necessary.
