Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the mashed bananas and melted butter.
  3. Stir in the brown sugar until well mixed.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until incorporated.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture, stirring until just combined.
  7. If desired, fold in the chocolate chips.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
Baking
  1. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow to cool before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

These brownies are delicious on their own or served warm with vanilla ice cream. They can be stored in an airtight container for 3-4 days at room temperature or in the fridge for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze for up to 3 months.
